Sainsbury's
TtheD - Beef & Black Pepper
Having been
under pressure recently from a
journalist friend to justify why we
have been only sampling pork
sausage, we picked up some "beef &
cracked black pepper" to get us
started...
Yes they
were OK, but if we were absolutely
honest, not what we'd call an
exceptional Sainsbury's sausage.
Frankly taste and texture-wise you
might as well have eaten a
reasonable quality "beefburger"!
Now don't
get us wrong, these are a very well
made sausage, and they cook up very
well and retain a good succulence.
However you cannot escape the fact
that probably in a blind tasting you
wouldn't be able to "taste the
difference" between these and a
beefburger, even though ironically
these were actually Sainsbury's
"Taste the Difference" sausages!
75% beef
and the cracked black pepper go in
together to create a reasonable bite and a
good chew, with good skins that
incidentally didn't split. A
slightly smaller size of sausage in
between what we would normally see
and a chipolata. Quite a bit of
weight loss and quite an amount of
residual oil (18ml) was left in the
pan though which did give the
appearance of the sausages having a
bit of a swim.
Not something we would probably buy
again, but give them a try yourself
and see if you agree.
