Sausage Review - we review sausages

We don't often do reviews on "other than pork" but every now and then something comes up to spark our interest...so these Chorizo Chicken sausages for example from The Churchgate Sausage Shop are a case in point...

As a family we often cook chicken with chorizo plus the vegetables as a tray bake style meal option. Chorizo and chicken together in a sausage then. Yes please!

Now before we go any further we need to add...we are told that there's NO actual chorizo in these rather nice sausages! Shock! Horror!

Well let's cut to the chase, they're made with 80% chicken thigh, gluten free breadcrumb, seasoning plus a custom flavouring of smoked paprika, un-smoked paprika, minced garlic and medium strength chilli powder to give the "taste of chorizo"! Nice one.

Long sausages these at 200mm that cook up really well in their natural sheep casings. We pan-fried as we do all our sampling but we're sure you'll get excellent results with these air-frying, or oven baking etc.. The natural skins do make a difference. Honest. Browning nicely and with no splits or bursts is what we like.

I asked sausage man Dan from Churchgate whether they needed to add any pork or fat to the chicken in the mix. His response was as they only use chicken thigh, there's still enough fat just in the chicken to ensure the finished product has that succulence and avoids dryness.

Certainly a very nice texture to the cooked sausage and we will quickly add, a really good taste too. The chilli hits the spot and if you didn't know, we believe you'd swear there was chorizo in these.

We deliberately bought quite a few and twisted each in to 3 creating some "cocktail sized" little ones to experiment with in a tray bake later...

The meal we created was spot on as it happens and there was thumbs up all round. The chilli wasn't too much, more of a warming tingle. We were really impressed with these.

Dan also tells me that demand for "other than pork" product has increased noticeably. Well there's a thing. 

Would we buy these again? Yep, they were really very good!
